Today we are going to talk about the words “This, That, These, Those“, better known as demonstrative pronouns.
What are the demonstrative pronouns?
The demonstrative pronouns are words that we can use to represent a thing or things in an indefinite manner, and within distance and time. The words known as demonstrative pronouns are: This, That, These, and Those.
Using demonstrative pronouns: this, that, these, those.
When we want to use demonstrative pronouns, we have to pay attention to the thing or things we want to refer to.
Singular things / nouns
For example, if we want to talk about ONE thing, or talk about a SINGULAR noun, we use the words THIS and THAT. The difference between THIS and THAT is :
THIS: something that is CLOSE in distance or time
THAT: something that is FAR in distance or time
Plural things / nouns
When we want to talk about THINGS or PLURAL nouns, we use the words THESE and THOSE. The difference between THESE and THOSE is:
THESE: things that are CLOSE in distance or time
THOSE: things that are FAR in distance or time
